Doing Right

Doing Right!

Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. James 4:17

Think about it. Are you at a place in your Christian walk where you feel that you’d do the right thing or make the right decision no matter what? If someone hurt you, are you prepared to forgive him or her instantly? If somebody cut in front of you in traffic, dented your car or ran a shopping cart over your toe, you may be angry, but would you react the way you should and calmly pronounce that it was OK? Would you go so far as to ask God to bless the person responsible?

Well, that sort of reaction would be best, but highly unlikely. The truth is we’d probably be so angry, that we’d blast them with both barrels. We know that we have far to go to act as Jesus would, but, praise God, it’s possible. We’re also aware of the fact that this world does not make it easy to do right. When faced with a moral dilemma, or simply the question of repairing a relationship that has gone sour, as Christians it’s up to us to do the right thing. Even so, doing the right thing is one thing, and doing it when we’re supposed to is another.

When God asks us to confront those who wronged us, we make things even more difficult when we’re afraid to face the pain and the hurt. Yet, it’s in our best interest to be obedient and seize the opportunity to voice our differences and express our feelings. Do not ignore God’s prompting to do the right thing. No matter what it is, whether it's how we behave or how we treat people, we must always uphold the example of Christ. We are His representatives. The only way to live in peace and contentment is to always do what is required of us, with the right attitude.
